HOW INTRALASE IMPROVES LASER EYE SURGERY

The IntraLase method eliminates the use of a hand-held steel blade to cut a corneal flap for the LASIK procedure. Instead, the IntraLase method uses laser light in quick, small pulses to precisely, uniformly and safely create the corneal flap. Dr. Kelly is able to set the laser to contact the cornea at an exact depth and shape, placing tiny bubbles within the cornea to prepare it for reshaping.

Once the flap has been created, it can be easily folded back to allow the surgeon to perform the rest of the LASIK procedure by reshaping the inner layer of the cornea using a second laser to correct:

  • Nearsightedness
  • Farsightedness
  • Astigmatism

Patients may be amazed to learn that it takes less than 20 seconds to create a corneal flap using the IntraLase method. In fact, the entire LASIK process typically takes well under 10 minutes. Patients usually enjoy excellent vision within the first 24 hours, with improvement for weeks thereafter.

Benefits of IntraLase

  • More accurate flap than with a metal blade
  • Smoother flap
  • Better visual acuity after surgery
  • Improved, more secure corneal flap positioning after surgery
  • Allows many patients with thin corneas to benefit from LASIK surgery who otherwise may not be candidates
