Happy Birthday To Me…

Vision problems have been a part of my life as far back as the second grade. Yes, the second grade. I’ve always either worn glasses or contacts practically my entire life but this past April I decided that it was finally time to say goodbye to the annoyance of falling asleep in my glasses or itchy, dry contacts during allergy season and give myself the best birthday present of all… perfect vision.

Scaredy Cat? No, Not Me!…
Well, maybe just a little. I started thinking about having the procedure a year before but still wasn’t completely convinced that I should go through with it. I mean hey, these are my eyes. What if I go blind? I did some research on the Internet, saw Dr. Kelly’s name, and finally made the decision when I went home for Christmas. Some of my friends were talking about having it done so I just looked at them and said you know what? If you do it, I’ll do it. And I did. I was also the guinea pig for a lot of my coworkers because I am the biggest scaredy cat when it comes to anything that’s painful.

I Can See Again! And Wow, I Can Drive…
One of the biggest changes I noticed after the surgery was how much better I could see to drive at night. I no longer had to deal with the glare from my glasses and even from my contacts. It’s amazing how different you feel when you don’t have to bother with vision correction anymore. I mean glasses and contacts are such a pain and you know that when you’re wearing them, but you don’t understand just how cumbersome they are until you don’t have to deal with them anymore. It’s funny though, you get into such a habit of putting your contacts in everyday that a couple of days after my surgery I went into the bathroom and asked my roommate where my solution was? She just looked at me and laughed.

Dr. Kelly Can I Ask A Question? Or Five? Or Six?…
Dr. Kelly is amazing. I instantly knew when I sat down in his office that he would be the doctor to perform my surgery. I had so many questions ranging from “Will I go blind?” to “How long will the procedure last?” He was so patient with me and made me feel completely at ease. I trusted what he said unlike the doctors I’d visited before. At one office the doctor dilated my eyes right before I had to see the financial consultant. They wanted a check right then as a down payment and of course I couldn’t see a thing. I left and never went back. I’m in insurance so I definitely shopped around and Dr. Kelly was by far the most professional and made me feel the most comfortable.
