Daniel L. Sambursky, MD, F.A.C.S.
Daniel L. Sambursky, MD, F.A.C.S. is a pioneer in Laser Vision Correction (LVC). In the early 1990’s he participated in the Excimer Laser surgery investigational trials and was among the first surgeons in the United States to perform LASIK surgery. He has even had the procedure done himself.
Dr. Sambursky earned his medical decree from the SUNY Upstate Medical School and completed an internship at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital program in internal medicine. He then completed his training in ophthalmology and ocular surgery at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, which is one of the nation’s top ten medical and surgical training programs in Ophthalmology. Dr. Sambursky also had the honor of being unanimously elected to serve as chief resident at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital. He then completed a fellowship, which is an additional year of training, in refractive and corneal surgery at the prestigious Wilmer Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital, widely regarded as the top ophthalmology program in the world.
Dr. Sambursky has dedicated his practice to vision correction and has performed more than 10,000 LASIK surgeries and more than 14,500 cataract surgeries. He has also served as a resident instructor at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital where he has taught dozens of ophthalmologists his surgical techniques in refractive, cataract and corneal surgery. He continues to teach many doctors from this country and abroad his surgical techniques and has patients from around the country and around the world that seek his expertise in LASIK surgery.
Dr. Sambursky had designed and patented an intraocular lens, which is used to replace the human crystalline lens during cataract surgery and has also designed a few surgical instruments that may be used during eye surgery. In addition, he was one of the first eye surgeons in the United States to remove a cataract with a laser by using a technique know as Laser Photolysis. For the past few years, he has lectured on eye surgery including LASIK and Cataract Surgery in the country and abroad.

John D. Iamele
John D. Iamele, O.D. received his undergraduate degree from New York University in 1984. He then proceeded to receive his doctorate of optometry from the prestigious State University of New York College of Optometry in 1988. Subsequent to his graduation, Dr. Iamele was asked to remain on staff at SUNY as an assistant clinical professor, a position which he held for more than sixteen years. At that juncture, he joined the practice of Dr. James Kelly. During the entire period, Dr. Iamele has also maintained his own private practice in Huntington, New York. Being licensed to treat many eye diseases including glaucoma, Dr. Iamele’s practice is largely devoted to treating many debilitating corneal conditions, as well as a major emphasis on refractive surgical comanagement.
Regarding the field of comanagement, Dr. Iamele has been well trained by the leaders in the field of refractive surgery. He has comanaged thousands of such patients with the foremost surgeons in both Long Island and Manhattan since the inception of excimer laser correction in 1995 to the United States. Dr. Iamele regularly attends continuing education seminars pertaining to the topic of cutting-edge refractive surgery techniques. During his tenure at the SUNY College of Optometry, he lectured extensively to the interns concerning the many different aspects of Laser Vision Correction. In addition, Dr. Iamele held the position of president of the Suffolk County Optometric Society from July 1999 to June 2001.
Dr. Iamele believes so strongly in the technology regarding Laser Vision Correction, that he has supported many of his closest relatives and friends in their decision to undergo LASIK, including his wife who is an optometrist as well. He has seen firsthand their improved quality of life as a result of laser vision correction.
